Revamping Bathroom Walls

Updated: Oct 3, 2019

To revamp bathrooms, walls are the first elements that need to be retouched. Painting is an affordable option, and choices of color, style and texture are limitless. It is available in moisture-resistant formulas, but it can peel or mold when exposed to moisture over time. (Brands- Asian Paints, Dulux Paints)

Another popular option for bathroom walls is ceramic tile. This material has timeless appeal for its variety and versatility. Ceramic tile comes in affordable prices, is waterproof, and adds a custom look. However, it needs to be grouted, and grout can get moldy. (Brands-Kajaria, Somany)

There are also bathroom wall panels made from UPVC cladding, a hard plastic with a vinyl face that imitates traditional materials such as wood and marble. The panels can be installed over existing tiles using a tongue and groove installation system. They are waterproof and easy to clean. (Brands- Polyex, Duroplast)

Finally, wallpaper is always an affordable option for giving plain walls a lift. The disadvantage with this material is that it’s not waterproof and will probably need to be replaced within 7 years if placed in the bathroom. (Brands- Elementto, Décor India)

Painting

Pros

· Highly affordable

· Various choices of colour

Cons

· Can peel or attract mold when exposed to moisture.

Ceramic Tile

Pros

· Ceramic tile is waterproof and easily adds a custom look to any bathroom.

· Solid surface walls are seamless, smooth, and built to last a lifetime.

Cons

· Needs to be grouted, and grout can get moldy.

· Solid surface walls can be tricky to install in bathrooms with curved walls or in corner

DURABILITY

The durability of your bathroom walls depends on which material you choose. For instance, while ceramic tile, solid surface walls, and wall panels are all waterproof, Paint and wallpaper, will need to be retouched or replaced after a few years of exposure to moisture.

MAINTENANCE

Much like durability, the maintenance required of your bathroom walls depends on material chosen. The grout around ceramic tile will occasionally need to be scrubbed to get rid of mold, paint should be retouched, solid surface walls and wall panels will sometimes need to be wiped down, and wallpaper must be replaced every seven years or so.

UPVC CLADDING

UPVC wall panels have a vinyl face that imitates traditional materials such as wood and marble. The panels can be installed over existing tiles using a tongue and groove installation system.

INFERENCE

Keeping cost, maintenance and durability in mind, ceramic tiles or UPVC cladding are good options for revamping bathroom walls as they are low maintenance and highly durable along with being moisture proof.
